I’ve been abnormally quiet throughout the playoffs. Ok, thats probably not true. I was pretty vocal during that Yankees series.
Being a baseball guy means believing in patterns and rhythms. If something doesn’t work, change it. When it works, keep it until it no longer works. Repeat.
The Red Sox will face the Astros tonight in Game 1 of the ALCS at Fenway Park in Boston. And I won’t lie, I’m a little nervous. The series that these teams played against each other during the regular season tells us absolutely nothing about how this playoff series is going to go.
In June, Boston went to Houston for a 4 game set, losing the first two games and winning the second two. Later in the season, the Astros came to Fenway Park for a 3 game series and took 2 of 3 from Boston. Now, I know what you’re thinking. “Mac, the Astros won more games, plain and simple”.
But baseball is fluky that way. That one extra game could have gone Boston’s way, just as easily as it went Houston’s way.
I don’t underestimate this electric Astros team. They are good. Altuve, Bregman, Springer, Verlander, Cole. All good. There are more. They’re good too.
But I believe that the Red Sox are just as good. I believe in Mookie, JD, Benintendi, Xander, Sale and Porcello. And what kind of fan would I be if I went in to this series as unsure as I am.
So, my official prediction is going to be that this series will go to 7 games. And Boston will come out the winner. Boston will go to the World Series. They will.
