We are past the mid point of the college football season and that means the playoff committee rankings are around the corner. While they have their thoughts we have our own. Let’s dive into our top 10!
.) Alabama: If you have watched football this year then you under stand why. If you haven’t, watch a game and then you can disagree.
.) Clemson: The Tigers pass defense finally looked respectable last week. If they can continue that with the NFL D-Line they roll out then this defense becomes scary. Trevor Lawrence looked much more comfortable last week after having a guy week to clear his head. Add that to one of the best backfields in the county and you suddenly have the 2nd best team in the country.
.) Notre Dame: Since the switch to Ian Book this offense has looked unstoppable. Notre Dame opened the year with a heck of a win against Michigan and hasn’t looked back since. They have 3 top-25 wins on the year and will look to run the table to secure a playoff spot. While their schedule leaves a lot to be desired they will look to run the score up to impress the committee.
.) Georgia: I must say I was surprised how they lost on the road to LSU. They have a chance to beat Florida and restore the faith. This is a team loaded with talent and an offense that we should see start humming at any moment. The defense does concern me. They lost some big players from last year but I expect Kirby out of the bye week to have this team ready to go and run up the score on Florida.
.) Michigan: The Wolverines have a loss to a top end Notre Dame team on the road. After that their season has been dominate. Shea Patterson has looked to finally becoming comfortable in this new offense. The defense is swarming the field every play and they are on a 7 game win streak. They have back to back wins vs ranked opponents and should be 10-1 heading into a show down with Ohio State to end the year.
.) Oklahoma: When you have a quarterback such as Kyler Murray you always have a chance. Oklahoma has battled injuries in their backfield and defense side of the ball which has hurt them. They still posses one of the best offenses in college football. An offense that could very well make the Alabama team play their starters more than one half. The concerns are Oklahoma secondary and that’s what leaves them out of the top 5 but a team that controls their destiny.
.) Ohio State: Similar to the Oklahoma this is one of the best offensive teams in the nation. They have a quarterback who would probably go in the first round if he declares and a backfield full of explosive runners. The loss of Nick Bosa very much hurts this teams defense which has already been gashed all season. Look for them to run the table till they play Michigan to end the year.
.) Texas: A team with a young quarterback growing up as the season progresses and 2 NFL caliber wide receivers to throw to this team has thrived so far after a week 1 blunder. The defense is loaded with talent and as they grow under Tom Herman we may be saying “TEXAS IS BACK.”
.) Texas A&M: Aggies have two loses to the top two teams in college football. Outside of those loses they handled their opponets by dominating the line of scrimmage. Williams is one of the top backs in college football and we can only hope that Kellen Mond catches up to the rest of this teams skill.
.) LSU: The Tigers have impressed with wins against Georgia, Miami, and Auburn. I think they will be brought back to earth next week vs Alabama. Till then we can’t ignore what they’ve done.
