Earlier this week, Michigan announced that they have hired Juwan Howard to replace the recently departed John Beilein, who is now the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
This is a bold hire by Michigan but I believe that it is the right hire, for many reasons.
Juwan Howard was part of the Fab Five at Michigan back in the early 90s, an absolutely electric time to be a basketball fan, and particularly a Michigan fan. This team included Juwan Howard, Jalen Rose, Chris Webber, Jimmy King and Ray Jackson.
These guys absolutely DOMINATED college basketball during their run. They ushered in a new era of amateur basketball and influenced many kids to pick up a basketball.

While this hire is great for Michigan Basketball, perhaps the best part about it is the fact that it will facilitate the Fab Five being back together for the first time since they left. Here is Jalen Rose discussing it on ESPN’s Get Up:
These guys deserve to be honored together for their accomplishments. Here’s to hoping that the hiring of Juwan Howard can facilitate that change.
